If you've found this website for the first time, welcome to CAGS - the Chartered Accountants' Golfing Society.  It took me a while to establish its existence and even when I did, it was purely a chance conversation - on the golf course naturally!  Roll the clock on a number of years and here I am in the privileged position of being the Society's captain for 2025-26.

Having got this far, please read on and see what the Society has to offer.  You'll get a feel for the games we play but the intangible benefits of being a member are less obvious and only experienced once you become a member and join in the events.  Membership is inexpensive and the process is easy to follow.  The link to our application form is next to this message on our home page and will take you only a few minutes to complete.

Whilst members all share the same professional background, their careers have taken them in different directions, but they come together as golfers to enjoy the company of their fellow members, occasionally guests and members of like-minded societies against whom we play in a series of matches throughout the year.  In addition to those matches, we have a number of meetings, including two invitation days.  Most are single day events, but some are multi-day competitions when the camaraderie between members extends to the bar as well as the course.

We play some of our meetings and matches at the same course every year (no, not quite Augusta for the Masters, but you get the idea).  We only go back there because we are well looked after, and the courses are in tip-top condition.  Other events move around different courses (yes, like The Open), but I've yet to come across a bad one in all my years of playing with the Society.  Great credit for all of this goes to our Secretary, Robert Dicketts, whose diligent attention and planning cannot be underestimated.

There are 'international' matches over three days against our accounting compatriots from Ireland and France.  This year we're playing the Scots too in what we intend will become an annual fixture.

The Annual General Meeting of the Society takes place every May and it is the Captain's gift to determine where the Meeting is held.  But then it's your job to organise it!  It moves around England & Wales and in recent years has seen us at places such as Enville, Hunstanton, Saunton and Sheringham, to name but a few.  Next May we are heading to St. Mellion in Cornwall for three days and two nights.  It will be a fabulous occasion, both in golfing and social terms, and I would encourage all members, old and new, to attend if you can.

There is something for everyone at CAGS.  You can never have too high or low a handicap - we have everything from near scratch players to those who require rather more help from the handicapper.

It's a great privilege to be Captain of CAGS this year and I look forward to helping all members to enjoy their golfing year.  If you're thinking of signing up, please do apply and join in the fun to come.
